The 2019 Davidson Fellows were announced last month by the Davidson Institute for Talent Development. Considered one of the nation’s most prestigious undergraduate scholarships, Davidson awards are given to young people who’ve developed highly significant projects with extraordinary potential to benefit society.
Recipients receive one of three scholarships: Laureates earn a $50,000 award, and Fellows receive either $25,000 or $10,000. According to the Institute’s website, about $7.5 million has been awarded over the past two decades to more than 300 students, who inevitably have a record of outstanding academic and research achievements.
The awards are given for projects in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, literature, music, philosophy and a category termed “outside the box.” This year’s Laureates and Fellows were concentrated in the STEM fields, with 17 of the 20 recipients honored for work in those areas. Eleven of the award winners were women.
