2024 Davidson Fellow Aadita Roy was featured in the Pelham Examiner for her project “Pro-Inflammatory Macrophages Induce Pyroptotic Death of β-cells; Modeling Macrophage-Mediated Pancreatic Endocrine β-Cell Damage Using Human Pluripotent Stem Cell-Derived Vascularized Macrophage-Islet Organoids.”
In her project, Aadita found proinflammatory macrophages can induce pyroptosis, a type of cell death, in β-cells within the organoids. She hopes this finding can guide the development of new diabetes treatments.
